Foggia, “The city I would like” returns: four days of events for legality, culture and active citizenship

F oggia is preparing to welcome the third edition of “The city I would like – A compass for legality” , the project promoted by the University of Foggia in synergy with the Municipality and with the involvement of associations, schools, students and active citizens. From 22 to 25 May , a busy agenda of events will transform some of the most significant places in the city – from the Campi Diomedei to the Department of Law , from the Economics Center to the Economic Area Library – into spaces for discussion, creativity and civic engagement.
This year, the event is part of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the University of Daunia , strengthening the role of the university as a cultural engine and a garrison of legality . “Legality is a path to be built every day, together,” said the rector Lorenzo Lo Muzio , thanking the mayor Maria Aida Episcopo , the councilor Giulio De Santis , the delegate for the Third Mission Danilo Leone and all the entities that collaborated in the realization of the initiative.
Argentero at TEDx, room named after Giovanni PanunzioThe event will open on Thursday, May 22 with the inauguration of the Talent Space and the TEDx at the Department of Law , which will also feature Luca Argentero . Dozens of events will follow that will touch on the themes of memory, inclusion, volunteering, social justice and civic education .
On May 23 , on the anniversary of the Capaci massacre, the conference “ From one year to another ” will be held in the Aula Magna of Law, with speeches by the president of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano , the president of the CRUI , the president of the ANCI , the mayor Episcopo and the rector Lo Muzio . In the evening, a highly symbolic moment: the naming of a classroom after Giovanni Panunzio , the entrepreneur killed by the mafia in Foggia in 1992. His family, representatives of the association dedicated to him and Daniela Marcone , national manager of Memoria di Libera, will be present.
Legality, culture and youth: a project that starts from the bottom“ The city we would like is not a distant dream – declared Leone – it is a concrete vision, built every day through rights, duties and shared values. The university is an open garrison, not an ivory tower”. Councillor De Santis added: “ Let's bring legality out of the buildings, among the people, in the neighbourhoods and among the young people ”.
Also scheduled is the presentation of projects co-financed by the Fondazione con il Sud , promoted by organizations such as MIRA APS , iFun , IoFaccioFuturo , Collettivo Mediante , Piccola Compagnia degli Impertinenti , in collaboration with numerous schools. The Buon Samaritano Foundation will announce the establishment of degree awards on the fight against usury , while ADMO will launch a new protocol with the University for bone marrow donation among students.
Concerts, books, sports and street food against the mafiaThere will also be space for musical culture with the concert by Giargo & Baia Zaiana (Saturday 24 May, 9 pm), the midnight concert by the Young Orchestra of the “U. Giordano” Conservatory (Aula Magna Valeria Spada) and the tribute to Pino Daniele with Bosso & Mazzariello (Sunday 25, 9 pm, Parco dei Campi Diomedei).
At the Economic Area Library , the stage “ The city that reads ” will host literary meetings, workshops and presentations. We would like to point out, among others, the meeting on May 24th at 5 pm on the city library service and the Pact for Reading .
Finally, from 22 to 25 May, via Caggese will be animated by “ Divora le mafie in un sol boccone ”, a gastronomic initiative in collaboration with International Street Food to promote cultural integration and break down stereotypes through the flavours of the world.
With exhibitions, sports activities, shows, debates and lots of participation, “ The city I would like ” confirms itself as a symbolic and concrete event , capable of uniting institutions, schools, culture and citizens in a common battle for legality and social justice.
